Sharilyn is a leading governance advisor who helps enterprising families give with passion, collaborate, and envision a meaningful legacy aligned with their values. Both in philanthropy and the wider family enterprise field, her bespoke advisory services help families explore questions of purpose and values – often at times of change or generational transition – so they can move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
As a Chartered Director, Sharilyn expertly blends corporate and family governance principles in her work, helping foundations and boards define and build systems to support their vision for social and family impact. She teaches governance and leadership at Carleton University, and her doctoral research focused on governance and multi-generational families. Her published work includes key research reports and contributions to leading academic texts on generous families, global philanthropy, and the charitable sector.
Sharilyn is an engaged volunteer and board director. In recognition of her significant contributions, Sharilyn was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025. She also received a Family Wealth Report Award for her work advancing philanthropy in the Caribbean, where she grew up and continues to work.
Sharilyn lives in Toronto (Canada) and Barbados, and is happiest when her toes are in the sand.
