About Us

LGA is a trusted advisory and educational partner to owners of the world’s leading family enterprises

Our story

Building on their longstanding collaboration as advisors and founding academics in the family enterprise field, Ivan Lansberg and Kelin Gersick formed Lansberg Gersick Advisors (LGA) in 1997.

Today, LGA combines bespoke advice and education to support family enterprise continuity across generations.

Our global team serves the world’s leading family businesses, family offices, and family foundations through LGA. Our main office is in New Haven, Connecticut, and rooted in our academic heritage, while our team members are based in New York City, Barcelona, Bogota, Brussels, Cambridge, Toronto, and beyond.

We meet with family enterprises wherever in the world they live, work and play, and provide full remote support between visits and events.

We facilitate the change you need to build the legacy you want.

Over the past two decades, we have worked with hundreds of leading family enterprises in over 30 countries on six continents and specialize in the most complex and sophisticated systems.

Our clients are family enterprise leaders who govern operating or investment companies across a diverse range of industries. They champion continuity, are driven by their values, have a stewardship mindset, and balance growth and legacy. LGA supports each of our client families with tailored advisory services to ensure their continuity, from initial diagnosis and planning through to implementation and longer-term support.

We are the originators of theories and concepts that are widely adopted throughout the field.

In our experience, education is one of the key drivers of continuity in a family enterprise, and those families that invest in the development of their human capital are doing themselves — and the world — a great service. Most of our advisors are faculty or frequent lecturers at universities, conferences, and private gatherings. We have special academic relationships with the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, the School of Management at Yale University, and Harvard University, among others.

In addition to our on-campus teaching, we design and deliver private educational programming to enterprising families who want to go beyond executive education and networking events. We help them deploy customized Owners Academies to support and develop their human capital and expand the bench of leadership talent for the future.

We also publish insights on topics of relevance to family enterprises in articles, books, podcasts, and webinars. We share these resources with current and past clients and also make them accessible more generally so emerging family enterprise leaders can use them to inform their unique path to continuity, regardless of their current size and influence.
